25,000 downtown workers now enjoy access to carpooling service

Montreal, June 8, 2006 - Up to 25,000 people who work downtown are now plugged into the Allégo online carpooling service that matches commuters, even if employed by different companies. This practical and effective tool makes it possible to find partners with whom to carpool to and from work. This morning, SITQ announced that it had joined the Allégo carpooling program established by the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT).

As a result, the 500 tenant firms from the seven buildings SITQ manages in Downtown Montreal simply have to sign up to enable their employees to benefit from Allégo carpooling. The downtown commuter management centre Voyagez Futé Montréal will handle carpooler enrollment and matching operations.

“SITQ is proud to offer its tenants this new added-value service which will have a beneficial impact on the environment. This program is very much in keeping with SITQ’s overall green-friendly activities, for which our properties were Go Green certified in 2005,” comments Guy Lamarre, General Manager, Real Estate Management, SITQ.

“By promoting alternatives to single-driver commuting, SITQ is proving to be a very forward-thinking property manager. After joining the self-serve bikes program, the company is now leading the way for downtown carpooling,” declares Bernadette Brun, General Manager of Voyagez Futé Montréal, whose mission is to encourage businesses and institutions in the Montreal downtown area to promote sustainable transportation solutions.

Allégo carpooling is one of the many tools offered as part of the Allégo program operated by the AMT. “It is a tool specifically designed to match commuters based on their place of work” explains Joël Gauthier, AMT President and CEO. “This makes SITQ’s participation excellent news as it will enable people working for different firms but who commute to the same area to find carpool partners.”
