SITQ to turn off its lights for Earth Hour
Montréal, March 26, 2008 - SITQ will be taking part in Earth Hour, a planet-wide initiative to be held on March 29, 2008, and switching off the outdoor lights of its Montréal and Québec City properties between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. that evening. As a result, a number of landmarks in downtown Montréal and Old-Québec will momentarily disappear from their respective nightscapes - including the Place Ville Marie searchlight as well as 1000 De La Gauchetière and Édifice Price, whose exterior lighting showcases their architectural features at night.
In all of our property management activities at SITQ, we place a great deal of importance on sustainability and ensure that measures are in place to reduce our properties’ environmental footprint, said Guy Lamarre, General Manager, Real Estate Management, SITQ. Our involvement in Earth Hour is simply an extension of the practices we have already introduced within our properties. Unless specifically requested by tenants, indoor lights of SITQ properties are always turned off at night and on weekends. During the Earth Hour event, the outdoor lighting will follow suit - with the exception of a few key systems that will remain on for security and fire safety reasons.
Earth Hour is a global initiative organized by the World Wildlife Fund to show public support for concrete action on climate change. This year marks the first time the Ville de Montréal will be participating in the event, and SITQ is proud to be joining in as well.
