Centre CDP Capital receives LEED-EB Gold Certification

Montréal, September 9, 2009 - The Centre CDP Capital, an SITQ property, was recently awarded LEED Gold Environmental Certification for Existing Buildings (LEED EB) by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The Centre CDP Capital is the second office building in Québec to receive this prestigious distinction.

"LEED-EB Gold Certification speaks to the quality of our facilities and our sustainable development practices," said Annik Desmarteau, Property Manager. "The Centre CDP Capital is already a testament to Québec design and know-how. Now it is also officially recognized as a leader in eco-efficiency."

The certification process required the property management team to assess all of the facets related to environmental performance, including sustainable transportation incentives, waste management, procurement and air quality.

To achieve Gold Certification, the team focused on the building's existing assets but also made several improvements, primarily at the operational level. For example, air quality monitoring and control practices, which were already very rigorous, were fine-tuned, and new procurement policies were introduced.

This is the newest addition to the list of distinctions awarded to the Centre CDP Capital since its construction in 2002. The property was also presented with the coveted Building of the Year award by BOMA International in the 500,000 to 1 million square foot category in June 2008. It is also BOMA BESt certified, under the BOMA Canada environmental program.

The LEED program

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health, namely sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
