Inaugurated in 1992, the World Trade Centre of Montreal is made up of a whole city block in Old Montreal, the buildings of which have been completely renovated and linked together via a huge glass canopy, creating a large atrium that is comfortable to stroll through all year round. A real indoor village, this fashionable, multifunctional 1.3-million-square-foot complex (including the Hotel InterContinental, with its 357 rooms), offers up to 34,000 square feet of offices on each floor. There is also a large 40,000-square-foot shopping mall with boutiques, restaurants and cafés. The complex is located next to the new Palais des congrès de Montréal and the main business office of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. It is an integral part of the new Quartier international of Montreal, a large-scale urban development project intended to showcase and promote Montreal’s growth on a global scale.
